A fascinating trek along Mount Etna’s northern slope, to discover up close the marks left by the powerful eruption of October 27, 2002. An ideal experience for those who want to combine nature, geology, and breathtaking landscapes in a single excursion.
The meeting and starting point is at Piano Provenzana (1,800 m), on the northern slope of the volcano. From here, the path winds along the 2002 eruptive fissure, reaching an altitude of 2,100 meters.
Walking among lava fields and recent craters, you’ll observe up close how this eruption transformed the landscape, leaving an indelible mark that still tells the story of Mount Etna’s power today. The area crossed is located along an active fault, offering a unique opportunity to understand the geological and volcanic dynamics that characterize this extraordinary natural environment.
